Razor Blanks
Hand-forged Cutthroat razor blanks, heat treated ready to grind.
We have a selection of steels and scale material available so please select.
80crv2/ 1080+ - This is a high quality basic carbon steel with good toughness. Heat treated to ~61HRC, these blanks should hold a good edge.
Dark-Mai - These are made from 80crv2 with pure nickel which will give a white line down the blade when finished and etched. Please see our using our billets guide to working with San-Mai for more tips.
Damascus - These are made from 60 Layers of 80crv2 and 15n20.
Scales - A choice of Ebony, rosewood, dyed and stabilised lacewood and stabilised chestnut. These are approximately 3-4x25x140mm.
Finishing - These are very similar to finish to most knives however they will usually end up much thinner, especially if you're hollow grinding, be careful not to overheat the edge. I recommend a 4 inch diameter contact wheel for hollow grinding. There are some good razor making videos online so I'll keep this short but if you'd like any more advice please feel free to send an email. One thing I will say, you will probably want to temper back the tang and use a carbide reamer to finish the pivot hole. It's undersized for 2mm but you could open it out further.
I like to keep the texture on the flats as you can see from the sample pictures but with care to grind symmetrically, it can be polished.
These were initially going to be finished for a retailer but plans fell through so we have some available.
