The story behind this knife

A breathtaking fusion of intricate pattern-welding and high-end mechanical engineering, built to be used daily and preserved forever.

Handle detail
One of one. Never to be repeated.
"This is easily one of my personal favourites from the entire collection. The goal was to take the classic San-Mai construction and inject something completely unique into the lamination line. The resulting 'barbed wire' pattern frames the high-performance 80CrV2 core beautifully against a matte, dark backdrop. To make it a true heirloom piece, I built it with a fully removable handle fit-up, ensuring it can be maintained, repaired, and passed down through generations."

Features & Details

Exclusive "Barbed Wire" San-Mai Pattern: A highly technical, custom lamination process that creates a precise, repeating barbed-wire aesthetic along the transition line between the outer cladding and the cutting core.

High-Toughness 80CrV2 Carbon Core: Renowned for its exceptional durability and ability to take a screamingly sharp edge. It provides a reliable, long-lasting apex for refined general-purpose kitchen work.

Matte "Special Black" Finish: A premium, non-reflective dark etch that covers the blade faces. It creates a striking, moody contrast that pushes the metallic silver of the barbed wire pattern into sharp focus.

Removable Heirloom Fit-Up: Like all of our knives, the handle is removeable. The slot is lined with high quality resin to ensure a perfect, repeatable long lasting fit. This premium engineering feature allows for professional repairs and maintenance over a lifetime of use.

Teal Horse Chestnut Burl & Translucent Resin: The handle features deeply figured horse chestnut burl dyed in rich blue and teal tones, beautifully fused with a tinted, translucent resin that adds incredible depth and chatoyancy.

Thin Semi-Convex Edge Geometry: Meticulously ground to provide a laser-like cutting feel for delicate slicing, paired with excellent food-separation properties on the board.

The Making of This Knife

The Vision of a Lifetime Heirloom
A premium utility knife needs to excel at everything, but it should also tell a compelling story when resting on a magnetic rack - or ideally a bespoke made stand from the add-ons section. This 165mm piece was born out of a desire to push the boundaries of blade finishes and aesthetics while maintaining absolute peak performance and quality.

Manipulating steel layers to form a clean, recognizable "barbed wire" motif requires an extraordinary level of control during the forge-welding process. After a successful forge and precision grind into an agile, k-tip utility profile, the blade was heat treated, ground and refined for optimal performance before being treated with our matte "special black" finish, locking in a dark, atmospheric backdrop that makes the intricate silver wire pattern practically pop off the steel.

Paired with a stunning, teal blue block of stabilized horse chestnut burl and translucent resin, this knife represents the absolute pinnacle of KWB functional art.
